FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES

May was Supervised Visitation Awareness Month, and we took the opportunity to highlight the vital role supervised visitation plays in preserving parent-child relationships while ensuring the safety and well-being of all family members involved.

The Seibel Center’s mission is to provide a safe, neutral environment for families to maintain connections—particularly in cases involving domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, child abuse, and stalking. Through supervised exchanges and visitations, the center works to uphold every adult victim and their children’s right to safety and respectful interactions. The Seibel Center recognizes that domestic violence is not just a family matter, but a public safety issue. The center was founded in honor of the late Honorable Judge Michael H. Seibel, who dedicated his career to ending violence against women and children. His legacy lives on through the important work being done every day at the Seibel Center.

We are always accepting donations for our Diaper Program and Basic Needs Pantry. Items or monetary donations can be dropped off at the Community Action Building, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm.

The Parenting Resource Center now has a NEW Parent Enrichment Curriculum. “Nurturing Parenting Skills” meets parents where they are at in their parenting journey and builds on skills they already have. Parents will take a brief assessment, then build a custom curriculum just for them, choosing from 40 different topics based on the skills to improve upon. This Parenting Class will be anywhere from 8-12 Sessions in length. Contact Amber Mattson, Family Support Services Coordinator, to make an appointment. (familyservices@prc-austinmn.org)

WELCOME CENTER

Despite the chilly breeze and blustery winds, this year’s Taste of Nations was a wonderful success—and it’s all thanks to you! We welcomed approximately 1,000 attendees who came together to celebrate the diversity of our community. With 37 craft vendors and resource booths, 10 delicious food trucks, and 13 vibrant performances, the day was filled with culture, connection, and joy. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and especially to the volunteers who helped make the event possible. Your time, energy, and dedication are what bring this event to life year after year. We’ll be back on the third Saturday in May for another unforgettable event.
But the celebration doesn’t stop there…

🌍 Join Us for World Refugee Day – June 21 at CAB from12-2pm.
In honor of World Refugee Day, we invite you to our next Inviting Table event on Saturday, June 21, at the Community Action Building. Enjoy a light meal, cultural performances, and meaningful conversations as we continue to celebrate the richness of our community.

As always Welcome Center staff are here to help with our direct support services to help newcomers navigate the complexities of living in a new country. Walk-ins are welcome but an appointment will ensure you can get the support you need in a timely manner.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

PREVENTION

APAC

In May, Austin Positive Action Coalition (APAC) members volunteered their time to help ensure safe, fun, and substance-free end-of-year celebrations and family nights at Austin Public Schools. Select coalition members also participated in Responsible Beverage Server “Train-the-Trainer” Trainings. With this knowledge, these members will be able to lead educational events in our area to help local businesses maintain proper serving standards and minimize the potential for substance misuse.

The next APAC meeting is scheduled for June 25th from 12 – 1 p.m. at the Community Action Building in Austin. There is also an online option available for those unable to attend in-person. We look forward to continuing our important discussions and initiatives to improve and strengthen prevention efforts within the community.

STAND

Our students held bi-monthly officer and all-team Students Taking a New Direction (STAND) meetings at Austin High School and Ellis Middle School. This month, students created awareness and recruitment posters and continued the ongoing process of restructuring their group to increase efficiency, sustainability, and outreach.

STAND members were also fixtures at local events and celebrations, volunteering their time to perform face painting and to share the goals and mission of the group. AHS and Ellis members also capped off another tremendous school year with parties celebrating the hard work, effort, and time they put in throughout the last year. But just because the school year is over, doesn’t mean our youth members stop! They already have plans and activities to continue their prevention efforts throughout the summer.

If you’re interested in learning more or becoming a member of APAC or STAND, please reach out to us at dfc@prc-austinmn.org.

RPC

Earlier this month, our Regional Prevention Coordinator traveled to attend the Spring Positive Community Norms (PCN) Training hosted by The Montana Institute.

This professional development opportunity allowed our RPC to support the Blooming Prairie Coalition and dive deeper into the PCN framework alongside coalition members. The team spent time strengthening their knowledge, building connections, and exploring new ways to foster positive community change.

We’re grateful for opportunities like this that help us grow, learn, and collaborate with passionate changemakers across the region!
