FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES
Families at The Seibel Center spent time this month celebrating the fall season. They enjoyed decorating pumpkins and participating in fall-themed arts and crafts projects. These activities gave families an opportunity to relax, spend time together, and add a touch of autumn color to the center.
Thanks to a generous donation from Hy-Vee in Austin, every family was able to decorate their own pumpkin and enjoy snacks during their visits. The pumpkins turned out “Spooktacular” and brought plenty of fall spirit to the center!
In addition to pumpkin decorating, families worked on seasonal crafts for all ages, ranging from foam pumpkins to haunted houses. Some projects were taken home, while others were used to decorate the center, adding a cheerful fall atmosphere.
Arts and crafts are more than just fun activities. They are valuable tools for building connections and supporting healing during supervised visits. Creative projects provide children and parents with a safe way to express feelings and experiences, especially when words are hard to find.
Art activities promote positive interaction and enjoyment, helping to rebuild trust and strengthen attachment between parents and children. Drawing, coloring, and crafting can also help children process emotions, reduce anxiety, and regulate their feelings in a gentle, supportive environment. Crafts add structure and predictability to visits, which helps create a sense of safety and comfort for everyone involved. These projects often become meaningful keepsakes, reminding families of the positive moments and progress made together.

WELCOME CENTER
As autumn settles in, Welcome Center continues to be a hub of connection, information, and support for families in our community. We have new opportunities to share local resources, strengthen partnerships, and engage with residents seeking guidance on essential services.
Throughout the fall, Welcome Center continues assisting individuals and families with a variety of needs from SNAP and CASH program applications to MNsure enrollment for healthcare coverage. Staff have also helped with notary services, court forms, and translations for vital records, ensuring families have access to the tools they need to navigate important life processes with confidence and dignity.
As the season of gratitude approaches, the Welcome Center team remains committed to helping families access the services, education, and support they need. Whether you’re applying for benefits, looking for assistance with forms, or simply hoping to connect with local programs, the Welcome Center is here to help guide the way.
To learn more or schedule an appointment, contact the Parenting Resource Center at 507-437-8330 or visit us at the Community Action Building. Together, we can make this season one of connection, care, and community strength.
PREVENTION
APAC
In October, the Austin Positive Action Coalition (APAC) performed outreach and provided games for families during the Austin MN Pride Event at Bandshell Community Park and Downtown Trick-or-Treat. Coalition members continued to discuss potential prevention programs and resource sharing to improve community alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) outcomes.
The next APAC meeting is scheduled for November 26th from 12 – 1 p.m. at the Community Action Building in Austin. There is also an online option available for those unable to attend in-person. We look forward to continuing our important discussions and initiatives to improve and strengthen prevention efforts within the community.
STAND
In tandem with the adult coalition members, our youth STAND members also provided games and face painting services during Austin MN Pride and Downtown Trick-or-Treat. They also created a Red Ribbon Week puzzle mural, where AHS students were able to share and display the personal reasons they remain ATOD free.
If you’re interested in learning more or becoming a member of APAC or STAND, please reach out to us at dfc@prc-austinmn.org.
