FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES

As a new school year begins, the Parenting Resource Center is here to make sure every child has what they need to succeed. We still have school supplies available—if you know of a family in need, please encourage them to reach out to us so we can help students start the year prepared.

We are also looking for fall and winter clothing donations for our Clothes Closet. We accept sizes 3T through Youth XL, and all items must be laundered before donating. We also welcome new packages of socks and undergarments. Donations can be dropped off at the Community Action Building (105 1st St SE, Austin, MN). Every contribution helps local families stay warm and supported through the colder months.

The Michael H. Seibel Family Visitation and Exchange Center continues to provide safe, supportive services for families in need of supervised visitation or exchanges. To learn more or schedule an appointment, please call 507-434-7550 to speak with a staff member.

WELCOME CENTER

September is a special month at the Welcome Center, filled with opportunities to connect, learn, and celebrate together. We’re kicking things off with Welcoming Week (September 12–21), a national celebration that brings together neighbors of all backgrounds to build strong connections and foster belonging. Our kickoff event will take place at the Cedar River Farmer’s Market on Friday, September 12, from 4–6:30 PM—a fun evening with food trucks, vendors, community resources, and activities for the whole family.

The highlight of the month will be our Inviting Table on Wednesday, September 17, from 5–7 PM at CAB, where we’ll mark the 25th anniversary of the Welcome Center and APEX Austin. For 25 years, our organization has been walking alongside families, creating a place of connection, and celebrating the diversity of our community. This milestone wouldn’t be possible without the support of our neighbors, partners, and friends. We invite you to join us in sharing food, music, and stories as we say a heartfelt thank you to the community that has made this journey possible.

To round out the month, on Saturday, September 20, from 11 AM–1 PM at CAB, we’ll host a community conversation with the Minnesota DNR and the Cedar River Watershed District. This is a great chance to learn more about local outdoor resources, including regulations, public access lands, fishing, hunting, and foraging.

PREVENTION

APAC

In August, the Austin Positive Action Coalition (APAC) performed outreach and provided games for families at National Night Out and the Mower County Fair. Also, coalition members shared insights and ideas for creating and strengthening prevention efforts within area schools.

The next APAC meeting is scheduled for September 24th from 12 – 1 p.m. at the Community Action Building in Austin. There is also an online option available for those unable to attend in-person. We look forward to continuing our important discussions and initiatives to improve and strengthen prevention efforts within the community.

STAND

Our youth coalition members helped set up and monitor community games at National Night Out and the Mower County Fair and provided free face painting for children and their families! They also held officers’ meetings to discuss their goals and strategies for the new school year to increase awareness and support their fellow students.

If you’re interested in learning more or becoming a member of APAC or STAND, please reach out to us at dfc@prc-austinmn.org.
